CA UIM for Amazon Elastic Load Balance

CA UIM for Amazon Elastic Load Balance

CA Technologies, Inc.
Proactively monitor one or more ELB environments

Description

This probe uses the Amazon cloudwatch API’s to collect each of the 10 metrics described below on a polling frequency (e.g. every 5 minutes) that could be specified in the Probe. Each of the metrics will have the option to keep the information for reporting (quality of service message) and have a threshold set that would generate an alarm message if it was exceeded. The quality of service (QOS) and alarm messages would appear in the CA UIM and CA Unified Management Portal (UMP) in exactly the same way as any other monitoring probe would generate. These QOS messages could be used together with other QOS messages in dashboards, list Views, reports & SLAs. The alarms will appear in the alarm console and will trigger alerting as normal, so emails and SMS’s can be generated when thresholds are exceeded.

  • Latency - Time elapsed after the ELB receives a request until it receives the corresponding response
  • RequestCount - The number of requests handled by the ELB
  • Health Host Count - The number of healthy Amazon EC2 instances active under a specific load balancer in a specific Availability Zone
  • Unhealthy Host Count - The number of unhealthy Amazon EC2 instances active under a specific load balancer in a specific Availability Zone
  • HTTPCode_ELB_4XX - Number of client error HTTP response codes generated by Elastic Load Balancing
  • HTTPCode_ELB_5XX - Number of HTTP response codes generated by Elastic Load Balancing that are in the 5xx (server error) series. Elastic Load Balancing may generate 5xx errors if no backend EC2 instances are registered or no healthy EC2 backend instances
  • HTTPCode_Backend_2XX - Number of Success HTTP response codes generated by backend instances
  • HTTPCode_Backend_3XX - Number of HTTP response codes generated by backend instances that are in the 3xx (user action required) series
  • HTTPCode_Backend_4XX - Count of HTTP response codes generated by backend instances that are in the 4xx (client error) series. This response count does not include any responses that were generated by Elastic Load Balancing
  • HTTPCode_Backend_5XX - Count of HTTP response codes generated by backend instances that are in the 5xx (server error) series. This response count does not include any responses that were generated by Elastic Load Balancing
